Abstract Landscape Painting

Yay for long weekends!

I have finished the painting. I’m calling it Summer Morning  – that’s the feeling I get from this scene. It’s a little humid, the rising sun is burning off the mist. The leaves aren’t all green – they know fall is coming.

Stay tuned for the next wip! I had such fun with this and I really liked seeing my progress over the many sessions, I think I will do it again.

Well I’m closing in on the end of the painting. I love the bright yellows and greens playing against the blue of the sky and the background foliage. I can’t imagine not working on this one anymore, but I think 2 more weekends and I’ll be done!

The trunk has arrived! Now I can almost get a sense of the final piece – I want to see some more trunk and finish off those foreground leaves. I want to convey one of those late summer mornings. The sun hasn’t yet burned the mist off. It will be hot later, but for now it is both bright and cool.

I got a fair bit done this weekend. I have only a little more of the background to go and then I can do the rest of the foreground leaves and then finally the trunk – yay

I can’t believe I started this on January 19th – it’s been nearly 2 months! I want to make 20 paintings this year but I think I will be a little behind

Here’s the progress from this weekend. It’s starting to come together as a whole now and I can see how the main foliage sits against the background. I can hardly wait ’til I get to the main trunk

I worked some more on the background this weekend. I’m going to go back to the main leaves next I think and make sure they work with the distant trees.

Still working on both the background and foreground. I’m looking forward to getting to the top left, there’s going to be some sky there – exciting!

After Sunday’s work. I did have a bit of trouble on the bottom left but I think I have it sorted out. My shapes were getting too busy and the colours weren’t being pushed back enough. I’ll have to keep an eye on it as I move around the painting.

After today’s session… I wanted to get over to the bottom left – I’m thinking it could  cause trouble.  We’ll see how it goes tomorrow. But it’s definitely coming along. I need to paint the edges soon (actually I should do them before I hit an edge so that I have the mixed colours in case I need them). But I haven’t had a chance and really I just want to paint the main area
