Reflections – 24 x 24 – Acrylic on Wood

I’ve been working some more on the leaves of this tree, watching the play of light in and amongst them. It’s one of those fall days that still holds some warmth, although the low clouds promise rain. I step outside and the wonderful colours I’m using are all around me. The rain begins and the warm ochres and reds of the leaves still clinging to the trees are that much deeper and the air smells like the forest – even in the city.

I love painting in time with the seasons – well at least when it’s fall I do. :)

More of these wonderful colours as I continue to work on the leaves. I’m looking forward to working on the lake – I’ll get to use some wonderful slates and greys and other surprises like pink and salmon. (At least I think so – who knows what’ll happen by the time I get there.) :)

I love the more somber fall colours – the ochres, slates and muted reds and purples of  later in the season. Less flamboyant, but still so rich with variety… :)

Sunrise – 16 x 16 – Acrylic on Wood – Reserved for Mayberry Fine Art

The trees stand quietly, the morning sun throwing reds and yellows across the snowy landscape. I think this one could have been bigger – maybe I’ll try a similar theme on a bigger panel later. Right now I’m thinking of the wonderful colours of Fall – slate, pumpkin, ochre and eggplant – yum. :)

I’ve decided to call this one just Sunrise – I think that’s the most important part and the reason why I’m painting it. It could as easily be a summer sunrise (and maybe I will do one – it would be cool to see the differences). It’s all about the sunlight breaking up on the trunks and branches and deepening the shadows on the snow.

I wanted to see what the foreground would look like. Lots of snow, branches and shadows not yet touched by the morning sun…

I love those crisp winter mornings when the snow crunches underfoot and the sun is a distant reminder of warmth…

Well I’m done. My biggest painting ever! (So far :) )

I love the colours on this one and the way they move up the painting. And the overall movement in the painting is fun too. Nothing is ever really still in my forests.

Ooh I’m at the top! The warm sun has really made a difference here. Lots more oranges and yellows – there’s more energy up here too. :) Things are much quieter on the forest floor…

The sun and sky are interacting with the branches and leaves now. There’s a lot more movement and energy up here too. :)
