Sunflowers – 18 x 24 – Acrylic on Wood – Reserved for Mayberry Fine Art

I love sunflowers. In this painting the flowers are writhing like flames.  I love the sinuous motion of the petals and leaves. Maybe I will think of a better title that involves fire in some way.  And I love the palette I’m using – all the cadmiums are complemented beautifully by cobalt green. It has such a lovely blue cast to it, the contrast between it and the oranges is just delightful. :)

I’m very pleased that my painting ‘Among Friends’ is a finalist in the Canadian Brushstroke Magazine Landscapes Competition.

Passing Storm – 24 x 30 – Acrylic on Wood

Here’s the final painting. The storm has passed leaving this Maple mostly unscathed. The sun is coming out and is lighting up some of the surviving leaves.  It’s still windy as the dark clouds move off in the distance, but this tree will retain its fall splendor for another day.

There.  I’ve darkened and blued the background a bit and I am much happier with it now. :) One more session and I should be done.  Which is good, because the next painting is waiting for me – not that I’m not enjoying this one, because I am!

I’ve started on the last section of this painting – the background. I think it’s a little to warm and too light, so I’m going to do some more work on it next session. I do like the way the shapes have come about though.  :)

I’m also starting to think about a new title for it. Possibly ‘Passing Storm’ but I’m not sure yet.
