Haliburton Morning – Finished

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood The muted colours hint at the day to come; the sky is just coming to life as the sun rises behind the hills. An Autumn morning in Haliburton, everything is poised, waiting for that touch of warmth. I have had great difficulty taking good pictures [...]

Haliburton Morning WIP10

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood Very nearly done! I still have some more dark reflections bring out. You can really see the strong contrast between the island and the distant shore which has already been kissed by the sun. A beautiful fall morning being born.

Haliburton Morning WIP9

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood There’s that little spit of weeds – I’ve been waiting to see that. And most of the lake is done; next I will move into the reflections of the trees in the water. So that’s it for the more saturated colours. The muted tones in [...]

Haliburton Morning WIP8

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood The distant shore shows hints of the colour full day will bring. There is still some mist on the lake that will be burned off with the sun. This is definitely a more muted palette for me, but I’m really enjoying the subtle plays of [...]

Haliburton Morning WIP7

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood The sky is pretty much done. Just a  little left where it meets the tree line. I can’t wait to do the trees as it will be the last bit of strong(er) colour in this painting. (The rest of the painting is water, weeds and [...]

Haliburton Morning WIP6

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood I have almost completed the grouping of trees in the foreground and am turning my brush to the sky. Lots of gentle blues and purples denote early morning’s quiet colours.

Haliburton Morning WIP5

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood Some more work done on the main group of trees. Lots of little spaces for light to peek through. The sky is energetic and the trees stand quietly, festooned with bright motes of colour.

Haliburton Morning WIP4

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood What happens next is the trees are starting to go up to meet the sky. The sky weaves in and out, defining some shapes and embracing others. It’s my favourite part about the sky – a flowing movement in and around the foreground of the [...]

Haliburton Morning WIP3

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood Here come the trees in the foreground. More colour is sneaking in than I thought an early misty morning would require. Oranges, blues, purples,  and greens set against the deep reds and browns of the trunks; this one is full of surprises. I can’t wait [...]

Haliburton Morning WIP2

Haliburton Morning – 24 x 30 – acrylic on wood Working away on the dark foreground; the morning sun hasn’t touched this tiny quiet island yet. Traces of the sun are starting to show in the sky and I have completed some of the lake between the island and the distant shore.
