More progress to show I’m still steadily working on this one. I have to be careful not to get lost in the patterns and remember to step back and make sure it’s working from a distance too. It’s easy to get lost in making beautiful shapes.
I’ve changed the title of this painting from ‘3 Birches’ to ‘Among Friends’.
Sometimes when I’m working on a painting the utilitarian title I start with (I’ve got to call it something!) just doesn’t fit anymore. I’ve been thinking about that in regards to this painting for a few weeks. To me this is a painting about quiet comfort and shared joys – the warm sun, a playful breeze stirring the leaves, flashes of a brilliant blue sky – and friends to share it with.
The third trunk is coming into being in this session. I can now see the balance of the 3 verticals within the shifting green of the leaves…
I entered ‘Towards Autumn’ in the Tenth Annual PineRidge Arts Council Juried Art Show and I was so pleased to find out I’ve won Best in Show!
And it was especially gratifying because there were so many wonderful works in the show. One of my favourites was from artist Daniel Colby whose wonderful way with colour resonates especially with me. To see some of his works, you can visit his site. And there were several other paintings there that I just loved including one of a fantastically realistic beetle and another, a vibrant abstract landscape that made me want to run home and get painting
So if you are in the Ajax, Ontario area over the next month feel free to stop in to the McLean Community Centre at 95 MaGill Drive to see my painting (and many others) in person
