Towards Autumn – WIP3

Working along on this one. I really wanted to see the sky so I snuck up and put some in :)

And there are four pines near the back deep in coversation. I’m not sure all this talking will help, but I can see they feel it’s important to stick together :)

A work in progress painting of a cloudy autumn day, the trees all greeny yellows and oranges by Canadian landscape painter Mandy Budan.

Mandy, your work is so stunningly beautiful. I could stare at it for hours! I first saw some of it on Etsy, and from there I came to your blog. It’s fascinating to see how you create from the beginning, from pencil lines to fabulous colour.
I am curious: do you use brushes or a palette knife or perhaps something else to get such precision? Also, do the darker pencil lines indicate the “holes” in the subject that show the background?
Thanks for posting your work, it’s a pure pleasure to see. As soon as I can get around to it, I will be purchasing some of your prints from the Etsy shop.

Thanks Amanda! I use brushes, small ones to get my edges the way I want them :) I think the darker pencil marks are just random, maybe I pressed harder there. They don’t have any significance. :)

I’m always blown away by your work, and it’s so great to see the progress of paintings, I think that just makes them so much more interesting. I have a friend working in London and when she had an image from back home (here in Minnesota) with trees in the fall with the oranges and reds, they all thought she had photoshopped a photo, but nope, that’s nature here in North America! :) Seeing all the colors in your paintings just reminds me of that so much more, it just takes the vibrancy to a new level.
I can’t wait to see this one finished!

Thanks Alli! I love the colours we have here too – although I bet there are some wonderful colour combinations in the UK. I was driving through Southern Ontario yesterday and there were fantasic golden orange fields with blue green trees fading in the distance – I wanted to stop right there and paint something!

Yep, same Alli as above again! :) I just found out on Saturday (my birthday) that my brother and sister-in-law got me a print of yours! It hadn’t arrived yet, so I have to wait until next weekend, but Im so excited to find out which one they gave me!!

Wow that’s funny! Happy Birthday! :) I’m sorry you didn’t get it on time though. Now I want to look through all my orders and try to figure out which one is yours! :)
